Adult Community
Education
2008 Winter Programs (flyer
as .pdf file)About every six to
seven weeks, community members should find fliers in the grey boxes
up at the Post Office and the Café Pacific. These fliers advertise
the new and exciting classes which are being offered through
Adult/Community Education. These classes can be anything from
woodworking to cooking; beginning music lessons to language; making
Hawaiian quilts to night sky watching. We try to offer a variety of
classes that will help the community of Kwajalein enhance their
education options at the same time as being fun and inviting. If you
are here on Kwajalein, you are welcome to register by calling 5-1078
or e-mailing the Adult/Community Education office at
kendricL@kwajalein-school.com.
BUT
our services reach beyond just offering fun courses. The purpose of
Adult/Community Education is to provide a service to the community
of Kwajalein by offering further education courses and choices to
the adults of the island. This includes offering advice regarding
distance learning as well as offering courses on a regular basis
which simply enhance the welfare and moral of the members of the
community of Kwajalein. Assistance in the form of proctoring various
exams for further adult educational goals is also offered through
Adult/Community education.
SO,
if you have always desired to get a degree, but haven’t quite
figured out how to do this long distance, or if you are registered
for college, but need help with the proctoring of the exams, or if
you need certification for advancement in your office, again give us
a call or e-mail our office or drop by. We are located in the George
Seitz Elementary School Administration building and our office hours
are Tuesday and Wednesdays from 8:30 - 11:30 am, Thursdays and
Saturdays 12:30 – 6:00 pm and Mondays 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. We would
love to have you stop by and chat about what is available for you to
make your dreams come true.
Also, we can only offer courses that we have instructors for. We are
always looking for new and unusual classes to offer. In order to
teach under the auspices of our offices, an individual must first
procure a community activities business license. This is just a
matter of paying $25 and filling out a simple application form up at
the Community Activities Office (by the Library). Then call our
office and let us know what and when you would like to teach. We
will do our best to set it up for you. These classes can run the
entire six to seven week session or simply be a one day seminar on a
subject. You decide how you want to set up the class. We do the
advertising and the setting up of the room.
I
hope this has helped you to understand a little more about what
Adult/Community Education is all about. We would LOVE to hear from
you if you have any thoughts or ideas as to how we can improve
offering adult education options for the island.
