First Grade
With the beginning of the third quarter, a wonderful feeling of accomplishment has settled over the first grade. We are now all readers! The learning never ceases as we continue with addition, subtraction, ordinal numbers and fact families in math. Spelling words have become more challenging with the addition of consonant clusters and long vowels, and in English we are studying verbs and learning more about the writing process! The first grade students have come so far and learned so much already, but it doesn’t stop here! Soon, we’ll be delving into topics like place value, money, time, measurement, and two-digit addition and subtraction in math. We’ll study life science (animals and plants) and matter (solids, liquids and gas), while in social studies we will learn more about maps and the world we live in. There is so much information to learn about in just one year, and our fabulous first graders will rise to the challenge! We have such a wonderful group of children and both Mrs. Dover and Mrs. Schroeder are looking forward to a great second half of the year!
