Music

We have a great music building at George Seitz School. It was built after Typhoon Zelda (1991) blew away the previous building near the ocean. We have a practice room, an office, a large acoustically live music room and a great storage area for all the costumes and props from various programs the students have done.

All of the students at George Seitz have music class for forty minutes each week. We sing songs, play instruments occasionally, work on presenting programs, learn to read simple rhythms, learn some basic notation, listen to important composers and learn some music history. The second and third grade classes put on a program in early December. The kindergartens and first grades work on a program for the spring. The fourth, fifth and sixth grade students have the opportunity to sing in the choir that performs twice a year.

Mrs. Shields teaches her students to listen for a fugue in Bach's music.

In fourth grade the students begin instrumental music on recorders with Mrs. Shields. In fifth grade the students choose what band instrument they would like to learn to play for the next two years in elementary school. Mr. Shields has two group lessons and one full band rehearsal each week with the students. The fifth grade band is Beginning Band and the sixth grade band is the Cadet Band. The elementary bands and choir have two concerts during the school year.
