Second Grade News! The first quarter of second grade is off to a terrific start! We have completed three books for our Oral Literature. We have read My Father’s Dragon, Elmer and the Dragon and The Dragons of Blueland. These are fabulous read alouds that all of the students enjoyed! The students were able to take reading counts tests on all of these books! We are currently reading Pippi Longstocking and having a great time hearing about all of her crazy adventures. In Math we are busy working on our addition and subtraction facts. As the students learn their facts, they earn a piece for an ice cream sundae. The deadline for learning the facts is approaching which means we are in for a yummy treat – ICE CREAM SUNDAES!! Our Social Studies units are helping us learn about our communities and those who live in them. We have made maps, studied landforms and talked about income and savings. Whew! We are really busy in second grade, but we also have time for fun! The students have made crafts for fall, and are currently working on personal stories about our field trip to the Marshallese Culture Center. We are proud to live in the Marshall Islands and be a part of their community.
