Services

Banking

"Community Bank" provides banking services for the Kwajalein community. The bank is a member of the Federal Reserve System and provides full service banking to all residents, including three ATM machines that are strategically located on the island. Community Bank will also cash checks for non-account holders for a small fee.

Post Office

New arrivals are issued a personal post office box. Postal boxes can be obtained for you in advance by Human Resources. While living on Kwajalein, your address will be: Your Name, Kwajalein Atoll, P.O. Box XXXX, APO, AP 96555.

Kwajalein receives and dispatches stateside mail via AMC military planes which currently come twice a week. It takes an average transit time of about two weeks for letters and pack-ages from the States to reach us, but could take as long as 11 weeks. Services offered are Parcel Post and Priority (United Parcel Service and Federal Express services are not avail-able).

All packages coming to and leaving Kwajalein must contain a U.S. Customs slip, filled out properly, with the contents clearly stated.

Sponsors

A Kwajalein or Roi-Namur resident (depending on where you live) will act as your sponsor. The sponsor sys-tem is designed to make the move smoother for newcomers. Sponsors will meet you at the airport, escort you to your new home, and ease the transition to island living.

Surfside Salon

Surfside Salon offers a full range of hair-care services for men, women, and children as well as a small variety of hair-care products. It is similar to a stateside hair salon.

Island Orientation

You will be required to attend New Employee Orientation (NEO) during the first two weeks on island. NEO is a two-day affair with the first day covering general topics such as: government property management, security, community activities, health care facilities, finance/payroll, and the company’s benefit package. Day two is devoted to safety and environmental concerns.

In addition to NEO, all new employees are required to attend Island Orientation which is held the last Wednesday of each month. All family members (over the age of 10) are also encouraged to attend. Topics covered during Island Orientation include: USAKA/RTS Mission, police and fire protection, community ser-vices, banking services, and weather. Additional information (i.e. time, place) on Island Orientation will be published in the Kwajalein Hourglass newspaper.
