English 10

The primary purpose of 10th grade English is to build on the foundation established in the 9th grade for composing literary, persuasive, and reflective formal essays, and to produce an original research paper.  Additionally, students will utilize proper writing conventions appropriate to their learning level.  To accomplish this, students will actively read from an extensive selection spanning all literary genres (see reading list), analyze these works, develop original theses, and share their ideas in formal compositions (persuasive, reflective, and literary analysis), class discussions, and oral presentations.

 Reading Choices (minimum 6):

Frankenstein, Fallen Angels, The Joy Luck Club, Black Elk Speaks, Watership Down, A Lesson Before Dying, Julius Caesar, Macbeth, To Kill a Mockingbird, Antigone, For Whom the Bell Tolls

 English 10 Honors
