English 9 The
primary purpose of 9th grade English is to strengthen
students’ critical literary analysis and written expression skills. To
accomplish this, students will read from an extensive selection spanning
all literary genres (see reading list), analyze these works, develop
original thesis statements, and share these ideas in formal compositions
(persuasive, reflective, and literary analysis), class discussions, and
oral presentations. Students will also produce at least one formal
research paper. In addition, students will continue to develop their
grammar, mechanics, organization, listening, oral communication, and
vocabulary skills.
Reading Choices (minimum 4):
Romeo and Juliet, The Hobbit, Animal Farm, All
Quiet on the Western Front, Great Expectations, On the Beach, Ender’s
Game, Fahrenheit 451, A Separate Peace, Night, Rebecca
