Brief Description of Class:
This semester course
is a survey of American Government, the Constitution, and comparative
study of other forms of government. Special emphasis is placed on the
meaning and application of the six basic principles (popular
sovereignty, limited government, separation of powers, checks and
balances, judicial review, and federalism) that make up the foundation
of the American system of government. A long-term goal is for students
to be active and effective participants in the democratic process.
